John Beutler Rhodes, 81, of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, February 27. John was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming, May 14, 1927. He was the only son of John Burney Rhodes and Beatrice Beutler Rhodes. The family lived in several western states during John's early years, settling in Utah for many years. He attended high school at Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, Missouri. Following graduation, he entered the military, serving in Europe during WWII as part of the occupation forces. Following his military service, he attended and graduated from New Mexico School of Mines and Technology in Socorro, New Mexico. During his long career as an engineer, he worked for Kennecott Mining Company in Utah and South America, and for the Bureau of Land Management over which he supervised mining affairs in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. He then settled in New Mexico permanently working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for several years. After retiring from the government, he became involved in real estate and land acquisitions. He handled these properties until shortly before his death. He loved working with the Veterans Post 5432, and as a neighborhood watch captain. His greatest joys in life were in meeting new people, the tending of tomatoes in his garden, traveling to Costa Rica, and camping with his children in Jemez Springs New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew. John is survived by his children, John Blair Rhodes, Amarillo, Texas and Nancy Rhodes, St. George, Utah and a sister, Bette Rhodes Rickbeil, of Boise, Idaho, and several nieces and cousins. John was married to Rhea Rhodes, mother of his children, and Ann-Neita Resseler - Rhodes. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 6, at the French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd, NE. Many thanks go to special friends, John and Clair Donnamaria of Albuquerque for their care and concern and to others who assisted him during his illness.
