Sure, our schools were rivals on the “fields of friendly strife,” but they were united in their common mission of educating and preparing young men and women for success in life. The purpose of this proposal is to recommend a strategic alliance between the Alumni of KMS and WMA that assures the legacy of the former and the future of the latter.
When Northwestern Military and Naval Academy in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, closed its doors, it assured its legacy by merging with St. John’s Military Academy. While the merger of the Wentworth and Kemper names is unlikely, as it would involve a level of integration made difficult by Kemper’s inactive status, there nonetheless is potential for the Kemper name to co-exist with Wentworth’s.
As a first step, we would propose the development of a Kemper Scholarship Fund that would underwrite the cost of cadets referred by Kemper alumni or the relatives of Kemper alumni who attend WMA. These cadets would be permitted to wear the crest of both schools on their uniforms.
Other collaborative initiatives are possible if we put our collective imaginations to work. For example, imagine a capital campaign among Kemper alumni to build a needed facility on WMA to be called Kemper Hall. Now imagine a building whose architecture emulates one of the prominent buildings on Kemper’s campus. In it is space for a museum in which the history and legacy of Kemper is preserved. Or imagine a separate museum – the AMAM or American Military Academies Museum – celebrating this unique institution’s role in American history and culture.
Wentworth stands ready to begin constructive dialogue immediately. Our point of contact is:
LTC Rob Hill
VP Enrollment Management and Marketing

We hope KMS Alumni will join us in forging a strong partnership focused on promoting success in America’s youth. |
