Robert E. Twiss, age 80, passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 8, 2009. He was born December 2, 1928 in Taunton, Mass. Preceded in death by his parents Frank and Lillian Twiss and brothers Frank and Jack. Survived by Judy, his loving wife of 52 years; children, Kelly (John) Hanley, Katie (Joe) McQuade, Molly (Luke) Polczinski, Laurie Twiss and Mick (Yvonne) Twiss; grandchildren, Casey, Meg, Allie, Bobby, Michael, Ryan, Chelsea, Allison, Katie, Christopher, Alexis and Aidan; sister, Virginia Babcock; many nieces, nephews, friends and family and special caregivers, Henrietta Agyei and Diana Ongor. Graduate of Purdue University and Kemper Military Academy, JC, where he lettered in football, track and boxing. He was a Lt. Colonel (Retired) U.S. Army, former teacher at General Sherman and Thomas Ewing in Lancaster, Oh. and former math teacher and wrestling coach at Franklin Heights High School. Bob was founder and past President of Twiss Blacktop Paving. During Bobby "Irish" Twiss' boxing career, he was Indianapolis Golden Gloves Champion, Indiana State AAU Middleweight Champion and Purdue University Middleweight Champion. Past President of Toastmasters, member of the Knights of Columbus, member of the Shamrock Club and avid swimmer and medalist in the Senior Olympics. Bob was formerly a member of St. Mary Magdalene, St. Margaret and St. Brigid Parishes. Most of all, he was exuberantly proud and overflowing with love for every member of his family. They made him proud and he has made them proud. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where prayer service will be held 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at St. Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church, 1600 North Hague Avenue, with Monsignor Frank Lane, Celebrant. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the many caring hearts and hands at Griswold Special Care and Heartland Hospice. Those who wish may contribute to the Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio, 3380 Tremont Road, Columbus, Oh. 43221, in his memory.
